About the Kaaba
The Kaaba, also known as the House of Allah, is a cubic building located at the center of Masjid al-Haram in Mecca, Saudi Arabia. It is the most sacred site in Islam and the direction (Qibla) towards which all Muslims turn to pray.
The Kaaba is covered with a black cloth embroidered with gold called Kiswa, which is replaced annually during Hajj. In the southeast corner of the Kaaba is the Black Stone (al-Hajar al-Aswad), a sacred relic that, according to Islamic tradition, was given to Ibrahim (Abraham) by the angel Gabriel.
Each year, millions of Muslims from around the world travel to Mecca to perform Hajj or Umrah, and circumambulate (Tawaf) around the Kaaba seven times in a counterclockwise direction.
